Irvine, CA - JAMS, the largest private provider of mediation and arbitration services in the United States, today announced the addition of Mark Smalls as Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer. Mr. Smalls, who relocated from Chicago, is based in Irvine, California, where JAMS is headquartered.
In his role at JAMS, he will oversee marketing and communications strategy and will help provide leadership to managers tasked with practice development responsibilities.
“Mark’s broad and extensive experience with organizations ranging from Fortune 50 companies to smaller businesses and non-profits, will enrich our management team,” said Chris Poole, JAMS President and CEO. “His background with electronic and online marketing is particularly applicable as JAMS continues to embrace emerging Internet and technology aspects in ADR.”

Most recently, Mr. Smalls served as Senior Vice President, Marketing for Opportunity International, a non-profit that provides microfinance products in 28 countries around the world. There he led the development and launch of OptINnow.org, an online donation site targeted at the mass market.
During his career, Mr. Smalls has worked in senior marketing positions at Unilever, Pepsi and Citigroup promoting brands like Dove, Aquafina and the Citi AAdvantage Card. After leaving his role as Executive Vice President with Citigroup in 2004, he served as Vice President of Sales and Marketing at UMI Communications where he had management responsibility for marketing, field sales, convention sales, and the call center and chaired the company’s management committee. In 2006, Mr. Smalls launched the consulting firm, T. Bryce Advisors, LLC, focusing on marketing, strategic planning and customer experience enhancement.
Mr. Smalls received his B.A. in management from Duke University in 1980, and worked for two years in public accounting with Arthur Young & Co. He received a Johnson & Johnson Leadership Fellowship to attend business school, and earned his MBA in 1984 from Columbia University’s School of Business (New York), with a concentration in marketing.
