Awards Panelist News

Los Angeles – JAMS, the largest private provider of alternative dispute resolution (ADR) services worldwide, is pleased to announce that Hon. Reva G. Goetz (Ret.) has been honored with the Timothy Whitehouse Award by the Beverly Hills Bar Association’s (BHBA) Trust & Estates section.

The annual award honors an individual or organization that has promoted justice, increased judicial services to the public at large and has furthered the goals of a fair and efficient administration of judicial service within the probate courts of Los Angeles County. The Timothy Whitehouse Award was instituted in 2002 by the BHBA’s Trust & Estates section in honor of the late Commissioner Timothy Whitehouse, who made a tremendous impact over his decades of service as a probate attorney and judge in Los Angeles.

“Judge Goetz has worn every hat when it comes to navigating difficult cases involving the complexities of families—particularly in trust and estates matters. She is revered within the legal community for her aptitude to take on the most challenging and sensitive cases and find a path forward that balances parties’ needs. We congratulate her on this well-deserved recognition by the Beverly Hills Bar Association’s Trust & Estates section.”

- Chris Poole, JAMS CEO

Judge Goetz joined JAMS in 2020, although she had served as a mediator and judge pro tem since 2015, and has successfully mediated and arbitrated hundreds of estate, probate, trust and family law matters. Her vast experience includes high-value trust, sensitive conservatorship and family matters for high-profile individuals, as well as complex trials as judge pro tem.

Earlier in her career, Judge Goetz served as a judicial officer for 25 years, which included both probate and family law assignments. During her time in probate court, she heard hundreds of contested cases, including those involving high-value trusts, high-profile conservatorships, undue influence and capacity issues, elder abuse, highly complex accountings and surcharge petitions.

While serving on the family law court, Judge Goetz handled complex dissolutions, addressing issues such as characterization of property; separate and/or community property; high-profile individuals; complex child custody matters, including those involving children with special needs and difficult custodial schedules; business and asset valuations; and support issues.

The award was presented during a virtual ceremony held by the BHBA’s Trust & Estates section on March 22.
