Hon. Patrick J. King (Ret.) brings nearly 40 years of experience, including 26 years as a trial judge, to his full-time practice at JAMS, providing arbitration, mediation, civil and criminal mini-trials, as well as discovery and case management services. His experience as a trial judge handling cases ranging from complex business disputes to medical malpractice cases provides him with a unique insight that enables him to resolve a broad range of complex cases.

ADR Experience and Qualifications

As a JAMS neutral since March 2003, Judge King has mediated and arbitrated a wide variety of cases including:
  • Business/Commercial: accounting, banking, engineering, non-competition agreements, breach of fiduciary duty; franchise disputes; breach of contract; corporate governance; consumer protection; unfair and deceptive practices; shareholder actions; stock options; fraudulent business practices; and partnership disputes
  • Construction: residential and commercial construction defects; failure to complete construction in a timely manner; and unforeseen site conditions in public construction contracts
  • Employment: wrongful termination; age, sex, disability, and race discrimination; ERISA violations; breach of non-competition agreements; and civil rights violation claims
  • Insurance coverage: insurance coverage and unfair settlement practice issues
  • Intellectual property: patent and trademark infringement, copyright and trade secret cases
  • Negligence: wrongful death; legal, medical, and other professional malpractice; premises liability; and various other personal injury claims
  • Real property: options to purchase; zoning; and lease violations
