Wallin (Ret.) has extensive experience resolving large, complex cases and specializes in commercial, construction, real estate, employment, insurance, and intellectual property disputes. Justice Wallin is well known for his fair-minded and pragmatic approach to resolving the toughest cases. During his 20 years on the bench, Justice Wallin heard over 1,000 settlement conferences. He has earned a reputation as being even-tempered, fair-minded, and respectful of lawyers and their clients. He includes the parties in the mediation process and works patiently to bring them together.
ADR Experience and Qualifications
- Has extensive experience dealing with a wide range of civil disputes including large, complex cases
- Heard several thousand appeals and authored nearly 2,000 opinions while serving on the California Court of Appeal. One of his appellate opinions resolved a long-running dispute between the Anaheim Angels, Los Angeles Rams, and the City of Anaheim over rights to develop the Edison Field parking areas. Another held that county supervisors and municipal officials could not be removed from office merely because their discretionary decisions proved unwise.
- Presided over civil trials and several hundred-settlement conferences while on the Orange County Superior Court
- Heard approximately 20,000 motions during his 3-year tenure as a law and motion judge. In a case of national importance, Justice Wallin ruled that federal law allowed financial institutions to enforce due-on-sale clauses in real estate loans. The United States Supreme Court upheld his decision.
