Mediation Begins With Me: A Look at Self-Reflection, Self- Management and Self-Compassion

In addition to skills training in mediation, what do mediators need to improve their mediation competency, especially in high-conflict disputes where emotions run high? The key to developing true mediation competency begins with a commitment to honest self-reflection and thoughtful self-management. Before we can effectively assist those in conflict, we must first look inward to better understand our own emotional competency and the impact we have on others around the mediation table. Drawing on insights from Christopher Germer's book, the Mindful Path to Self-Compassion, this presentation will illustrate how to design and implement a life-long commitment to self-reflection and personal development - a journey that begins with "me".
