Lizbeth Hasse has an extensive mediation, arbitration and special master practice and has resolved numerous international cases since 1998. Ms. Hasse handles multi-jurisdictional disputes and works with parties and companies from around the world in commercial, intellectual property, entertainment, environmental and antitrust law. Her practice has included some of the highest value US and international matters during the past two decades. Ms. Hasse’s extensive international experience is enhanced by the skills she brings as a neutral; she prepares deeply, grasps complex situations quickly and relates well with parties and counsel involved.

Ms. Hasse is a fellow with the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators, based in London, one of the most prestigious organizations involved in international arbitration, and is UN-certified in Peace-keeping, Mediation and Election Monitoring from the distinguished Scuola Superiore Sant’Anna di Pisa. She is known for her resourceful insights, tenacity and intellectual acumen when dealing with the complexity of cultural sensitivities and varying legal and business practices that arise in international matters.

Representative International Mediated and Arbitrated Matters

  • Mediated solo and as a member of mediation team, numerous complex antitrust claims involving multi-national corporations operating in Taiwan, South Korea and Japan for alleged conspiracies in the D-RAM, S-RAM, and LCD industries. Private and governmental claims, class actions, and opt-outs
  • Successfully mediated and structured complex settlement of ATS action brought by Colombian labor activists against large multi-national employer for working conditions and violence in the workplace
  • Successfully mediated appeal of tort claims involving Turkish workers against a major multi-national food and beverage company for unsafe working conditions and retaliation
  • Successfully mediated several cases involving contributory liability of underwriters and accounting firms in securities fraud matters where key perpetrator of fraud in China could not be served or was judgment-proof (insolvent)
  • Successfully mediated and structured settlement agreement and trust in resolution of dispute between several indigenous Amazon communities against large petro-chemical company
  • As member of mediation team, helped to structure process and resolve various claims brought in Enron bankruptcy against major international banks relating to charges of aiding and abetting scheme to manipulate financials, inappropriate preferential transfers and allegedly fraudulent transfers of funds, breach of contracts and covenants, equitable subordination claims and various commercial paper claims
  • Mediated complex securities cases following public offerings of Chinese energy and resources companies
  • Successfully mediated shareholder class action against former officers of bankrupt toy manufacturer accused of concealing company’s financial condition prior to its acquisition of a Canadian competitor and of misrepresenting value of the acquisition before selling it to benefit themselves
  • Resolved dispute between international talent based in Israel and producer about ownership and various rights in show and concept related to a project developed by both parties
  • Successfully mediated claims of international film distributor and rights holder against broadcaster for breach of contract relating to packaging of film for international licensing and for manipulation of accounting of royalties and worldwide receipts
  • Successfully mediated claims for copyright infringement, trademark infringement and false advertising brought by one popular Canadian television series against another in U.S. dealing with the same subject
  • Successfully mediated dispute between foreign-based heirs of art collectors, lawyer and major auction house involving restitution claims and recovery of artwork confiscated by Nazis during WWII
  • Successfully mediated case brought by UK heirs of major British novelist against motion picture studios regarding revenue distributions, grants of rights, and copyright termination issues
  • Successfully mediated trademark dispute in the software and electronic devices fields between a US technology company and Taiwanese manufacturer
  • Mediated patent dispute involving university professor’ allegations of “co-inventor” status with fellow researchers with respect to genetic treatment technology patents including claims for royalties on German company’s use of IP and claims against German research institute
  • Successfully mediated multi-party action brought against law firm for simultaneous representation of corporation and its former officers alleged to have misappropriated corporate assets to the detriment of majority shareholder, Japanese citizen, including actions against banks involved in investment, loans and foreign properties
  • Successfully mediated products liability, warranty and other claims by pet food companies against suppliers of tainted ingredients purchased from Chinese supplier/manufacturer
