A former Chief Magistrate Judge of the United States District Court, Judge Infante has successfully resolved more than 3,000 disputes as a full time neutral.  He is particularly renowned for his diligent preparation and ability to develop a settlement strategy on case-by-case basis, tailoring mediation process to fit nature and parties in dispute.  He is lauded for his ability to fully understand each litigant’s views and interests as their settlement negotiations evolve, while effectively engaging each party in an objective risk analysis about the potential settlement.

 

Judge Infante’s financial markets experience includes securities and shareholder class actions, cases involving allegations against brokerage and investment firms, stock option backdating cases, and fraud and unfair lending practices against financial institutions, M&A disputes and cases involving bankruptcies.  In Financial Markets cases, Judge Infante has the ability to grasp complex corporate, accounting, financial and insurance issues, while keeping in mind practical ongoing business considerations in order to assist parties in reaching solutions.

  • In re Payment Card Interchange Fee Antitrust Litigation, largest antitrust settlement of $7.25 billion in multi-district litigation on behalf of a class of approximately seven million merchants in the United States
  • In re IndyMac Mortgage-Backed Securities (MBS) Litigation, settled for $340 million, class action claims against six underwriters of the IndyMac mortgage-backed securities, resulting in one of the largest federal class action settlements in MBS
  • In re Currency Conversion Fee Antitrust Litigation,  a nationwide class action concerning the use of certain payment cards for foreign transactions, settled for $336 million
  • A multi-state class action filed by former shareholders who received cash compensation in connection with the demutualization of a company’s stock
  • Numerous securities class actions and derivative actions involving over 100 NASDAQ and NYSE companies
  • Multiple consumer class actions against commercial banks alleging unfair lending practices
  • Mergers and acquisitions disputes involving companies, private equity firms, investment banks, and directors and officers
