Eric Van Loon brings years of experience to every resolution. A full-time dispute resolution professional since 1989, he has more than 20,000 hours of experience in 42 states and eight countries as a mediator, arbitrator, speaker, and trainer specializing in complex, multi-party, high-stakes disputes and is listed in "Best Lawyers in America" for Alternative Dispute Resolution.

A former state official, Van Loon has extensive and diverse experience in local, state, and federal governmental matters. He has been appointed a special settlement master by U.S. district courts, chair of the internet streamed music royalty panel by the U.S. Copyright Office, and EPA Superfund, FDIC, USDA, and Copyright Office dispute resolution panels. His federal dispute resolution work includes work with DOD, EPA, FDIC, Interior (Indian Affairs), SBA, USDA, individual U.S. Attorney Offices, and USDOJ/DC. State government work includes work with business, employment, energy, environmental, human services, technology, and utility agencies throughout New England and in the Midwest and south. He has also reported to federal courts from Arizona to Washington, DC at the request of mediating parties, and has experience in many aspects of government contracting.

  • Appointed by U.S. district court to assist with resolution of OK Indian treaty disputes
  • Appointed mediator by state public utilities commission to resolve largest electric rate increase application ($200 million annually) in state history
  • Appointed to assist agency in state-court-ordered rehabilitation to resolve litigation involving 3,000-member statewide workers comp self-insurance program, its actuary, sponsor, and others
  • Appointed U.S. district court special settlement master in 60,000-acre NY Indian land claim
  • Arbitrated more than 300 claims under federal court settlement of African-American farmers' nationwide discrimination suit against U.S. Dept. of Agriculture
  • Conducted $6 billion Safe Drinking Water Act negotiated rule-making with federal, state, and local officials, and environmental, public health, regulator, and industry representatives
  • Convened/facilitated national meeting with USEPA, Small Business Administration, Commerce Department and state representatives regarding environmental assistance to small business
  • Mediated $35 million settlement in statewide class action involving the rights of mentally retarded persons to live in community settings
  • Mediated agreement on state electric industry restructuring among 18 parties, including state AG, energy, and environmental offices, five electric companies, large power users, independent power producers, consumer representatives, and environmentalists
  • Mediated conditions for siting a waterfront entertainment facility among a big-city mayor, the city development authority, state environmental regulators, citizen activist groups, environmentalists, and local business and fishing interests
  • Mediated DOD subcontract settlement on the cost of part of an advanced weaponry system for the F16 Raptor stealth fighter bomber
  • Mediated numerous Superfund site cleanup cost allocations among local, county, and state governments, including a local water authority, USEPA, U.S. Department of Defense, and private PRPs
  • Mediated restructuring of a 24-town, multi-state compact governing the economics and operations of a trash-to-energy facility
  • Planned and conducted a national meeting on Environmental ADR with large and small businesses and DOJ and USEPA national and regional participation
  • Resolved governor/city/county impasse to enable Cleveland Jacobs Field construction
