The Healthcare Practice Group at JAMS was formed in response to the growing number of healthcare disputes and the need for innovative methods to resolve them. JAMS Neutrals in the Healthcare Group are highly experienced in the unique issues involving health industry disputes. They frequently resolve disputes involving hospitals, health systems, health maintenance organizations, insurers, managed care companies, physicians and medical experts, government agencies, and health information technology providers, among others. The group consists of some of the most prominent mediators and arbitrators in the United States, who resolve disputes more quickly and with significantly smaller expense than litigation.

ADR Options

  • Mediation/Arbitration
Members of the Healthcare Practice Group include some of our most distinguished mediators and arbitrators from throughout the United States, including retired federal, state trial and appellate judges, and former litigators, all of whom have specific relevant dispute resolution and substantive experience. JAMS neutrals often serve as single arbitrators and on three arbitrator panels. The cases include disputes involving payors/insurers, health plans, providers such as hospitals and long term care facilities, physician groups, and governmental and regulatory entities.
  • Hearing Officers
JAMS Neutrals are trained and experienced in conducting Judicial Review Hearings. They are highly knowledgeable about the state laws that dictate the details of such proceedings. Our neutrals take an active role in: making pre-hearing rulings, presiding at the hearing, leading deliberations, and preparing thorough decisions in a timely manner.
  • Discovery Referee/Special Master
Courts often appoint JAMS neutrals as Special Masters or Referees to assist the parties with disputes that are legally and factually complex. Acting in these roles in healthcare cases, JAMS neutrals may assist the parties with e-discovery and other issues involving electronic health records, design efficient settlement formats in multi-party cases and provide streamlined case management. As a provider JAMS has 30 years of experience in managing these important court appointments.
