A retired senior justice of the Appellate Division of the New York Supreme Court and former Commercial Division Justice, Judge Crane has confronted complex and sophisticated litigations and appeals as a judge. Since joining JAMS, Judge Crane has had numerous assignments as a mediator and arbitrator in a variety of international disputes.

  • Claims of employees of an asset securitization group of a German investment bank to payment to profit participation awards due to an alleged payout event involving the bank’s alleged decision to discontinue this line of business
  • London arbitration of disputes with various insurers issuing quota share policies
  • Claims to damage and forfeiture of his membership against managing member of an LLC, created to invest in real estate in India for failing to make his capital contribution, repay a loan and for defaming the claimants
  • Claim and counterclaim involving buy out of one member of joint venture, formed to develop foreign markets, by the other member, the owner of the domestic manufacturer of the products marketed by the joint venture
  • Claim to damages under Bermuda form excess insurance policy covering mass tort actions alleging product liability of a pharmaceutical manufacturer involving questions of what the manufacturer “expected” or “intended” the claims to be
  • Arbitration of claim for coverage for damages caused by insured’s product in contaminating ground water
  • ICC arbitration of dispute over contract to supply parts for a cockpit device in fighter jets with counterclaim for misuse of intellectual property

  • Mediated complex divorce of business partners in a lucrative business of selling armaments and tanks to a foreign military in Africa
  • Mediated claims for the theft of valuable cargo shipped from Africa and replaced with worthless rocks and ballast by the time it arrived in the United States
  • Mediated minority shareholder claims against majority owners of an international freight forwarding and customs brokering company
  • Mediated dispute of foreign licensee from famous named clothing designer claiming licensor failed or refused to approve designs timely submitted to her
  • Mediated claim by buyer for supplying defective marine fuel oil that damaged third party vessel whose owner recovered from buyer in London High Court
  • Mediated claims by and against bankrupt estate as counterparty to a number of derivative contracts with various Asian banks
