Session 1: The Value of Special Masters in E-Discovery

Courts are turning with growing frequency to special masters as they confront increasingly complex e-discovery scenarios. When properly selected and used in appropriate matters, special masters with e-discovery expertise can help courts and parties prioritize issues for determination and streamline resolution of disputes in a cost-effective manner. This program will provide an overview of the issues and examine key considerations surrounding the use of special masters in e-discovery. A panel of leading practitioners and jurists, including several with e-discovery special master experience, will discuss scenarios that merit the involvement of a special master. They will also cover rules regarding special master appointments, objecting to and obtaining relief from special master rulings, and other relevant practice tips, all with an eye towards the cost savings that can be realized through this underutilized solution.
