Hon. Paula Casey (Ret.) Joins JAMS in Seattle

New Panelist Announcement
Seattle – JAMS, the largest private provider of mediation and arbitration services worldwide, today announced the addition of Hon. Paula Casey (Ret.) to its panel. Judge Casey will be based in the JAMS Seattle Resolution Center. She will serve as an arbitrator, mediator and special master in a variety of disputes including Family Law, Estates/Probates/Trusts and Government.

Judge Casey joins JAMS after 30 years on the Thurston County Superior Court, where she had a significant amount of experience with ADR. She was a founder and past board member of the Thurston County Dispute Resolution Center. Judge Casey served as the presiding judge of the Thurston County Family and Juvenile Court from 1998 through 2001, and again from 2007 through 2009.

Judge Casey is best known for her work with the Family and Juvenile Court where she advocated for best practice principles for family matters, which were adopted as Washington statewide goals. She was instrumental in reforming the way Thurston County processed family and juvenile law matters and housed the two types together in a separate building from the main courthouse. Called the Unified Family Court Project, the new system of processing family and juvenile cases was designed to better serve families and children involved with the court system. The project has since become a model for other courts around the state.

“Judge Casey firmly believes that litigation is not the best way to resolve certain types of conflict,” said Chris Poole, JAMS president and CEO. “She has demonstrated a commitment to ADR and has worked hard to help individuals achieve agreeable, timely and less costly outcomes through dispute resolution. We are thrilled to have her join our panel.”

“I have utilized ADR for a long time and recognize its many benefits,” said Judge Casey. “Individuals who must coexist as neighbors, parent their children together or otherwise work together long after their dispute has been resolved are often better served without trial. I look forward to joining the talented panel in Seattle.”

Judge Casey graduated with a B.A. from Willamette University and earned her J.D. from Willamette University College of Law.
