Hon. Peter M. Lauriat (Ret.) Joins JAMS in Boston

Former Massachusetts judge joins JAMS as a mediator, arbitrator, and special master

BOSTON – JAMS, the largest private provider of mediation and arbitration services worldwide, today announced the addition of Hon. Peter M. Lauriat (Ret.) to its panel. Judge Lauriat will be based in the Boston Resolution Center and serve as a mediator, arbitrator and special master in a wide variety of disputes. Judge Lauriat joins JAMS after 29 years serving on the Massachusetts Superior Court. Prior to his appointment to the bench, he practiced law in Boston for 17 years.

Judge Lauriat was consistently praised for being a no-nonsense judge who was willing to roll up his sleeves in order to understand the complex legal issues, factual controversies and dynamics at play in each case. We are thrilled for him to join us in Boston and confident he will make a great addition to the panel.

-Chris Poole, JAMS President and CEO

Judge Lauriat earned a reputation for his encyclopedic knowledge of the law, a tremendous work ethic and creative problem solving for his diverse range of clients. The judge presided over and tried an array of civil action cases including employment discrimination, breach of contract, trade secrets, real estate disputes and commercial construction. With a specialization in start-up disputes, he handled virtually all of the legal issues facing a start-up closed corporation, including venture capital, partnership agreements and trademark issues.

Throughout my career as both a judge and litigator I tried to help parties successfully and efficiently find resolution. I look forward to applying these skills alongside the talented JAMS team in Boston.

-Hon. Peter M. Lauriat (Ret.), JAMS Mediator, Arbitrator, and Special Master

Judge Lauriat has extensive experience teaching students at Harvard Law School and the National Judicial College, as well as teaching numerous courses and programs for judges and lawyers in the Commonwealth. He has long specialized in civil discovery matters and has co-authored a well-recognized two-volume treatise on discovery.

Judge Lauriat earned his B.A. with honors from Middlebury College before receiving his J.D. from the University of Chicago Law School.
