Hon. Robert Dondero (Ret.) Joins JAMS in San Francisco

Former San Francisco Superior Court judge joins JAMS as an arbitrator, mediator, special master, and neutral case evaluator

New Panelist Announcement

SAN FRANCISCO – JAMS, the largest private provider of alternative dispute resolution (ADR) services worldwide, is pleased to welcome Hon. Robert Dondero (Ret.) to its panel. Justice Dondero joins JAMS after a 47-year career, where he most recently served for nearly 10 years on the California Court of Appeal, First Appellate District, Division One. Before his appointment to the appellate court, Justice Dondero was a Superior Court judge in San Francisco for 17 years, where he served on the criminal bench at the Hall of Justice, the Juvenile Court and the civil trial departments.

Based in the San Francisco Resolution Center, Justice Dondero will serve as an arbitrator, mediator, special master and neutral case evaluator in a wide variety of disputes, including business/commercial, class action/mass tort, employment, environmental, health care, insurance, professional liability and personal injury.

Justice Dondero is known for his calm demeanor, excellent listening skills and his ability to ask probing, well-thought-out questions to both sides. We are confident that these qualities will enable him to be an effective neutral on our San Francisco JAMS panel.

-Chris Poole, JAMS President and CEO

Earlier in his career, Justice Dondero was the supervising judge of the San Francisco Criminal Court. He was elected by his colleagues as assistant presiding judge of the San Francisco Superior Court, and then as presiding judge. Throughout his tenure on the Superior Court, Justice Dondero participated in numerous mediation and settlement conferences resulting in the resolution of cases on the trial calendar.

Prior to becoming a judge, Justice Dondero was a deputy district attorney in San Francisco. He handled a variety of trials involving homicide and sexual assault. In 1978, he became an Assistant United States Attorney for the Northern District of California, handling numerous federal prosecutions, with an emphasis on white collar litigation and racketeering cases. He served with the Department of Justice for 14 years until he was appointed to the bench.

One thing that has remained consistent throughout my legal career is that I have always found great satisfaction in helping parties successfully resolve disputes. I’m truly looking forward to bringing my experience and skills to this new role as a neutral at JAMS.

-Hon. Robert Dondero (Ret.), JAMS Arbitrator, Mediator, Special Master, and Neutral Case Evaluator

Justice Dondero received his B.A. from Santa Clara University and earned his J.D. from Berkeley Law School, University of California.
