AtlAS invites you to join a program dedicated to international mediation and the new Georgia Uniform Mediation Act, legislation drafted by and passed with the society’s support.

Georgia’s new statute incorporates the UNCITRAL Modal Law on International Mediation, which is designed to create a more favorable legal framework for international dispute resolution. Georgia is the first state in the United States to pass this law.

Speakers will include individuals who were instrumental in the legislative process, who will provide their remarks on the potential impact of the new statute and the growing use of mediation as an alternative mechanism for expediting and resolving international arbitrations.

Panelists:

  • Mary Donovan | Mercer University Law School; Member, Georgia Dispute Resolution Commission - Macon, GA
  • Shelby Guilbert | AtlAS President-Elect; Partner, McGuireWoods LLP - Atlanta, GA
  • Alya Ladjimi | Manager, ICC International Centre for ADR - Paris, France
  • Luis Martinez | Vice President, International Center on Dispute Resolution (ICDR) - New York, NY
  • Stephen McKinney | Immediate Past Chair, Georgia Bar Dispute Resolution Section - Decatur, GA
  • Bernard Taylor, Sr., Esq. | Mediator and Arbitrator, JAMS - Atlanta, GA

CLE status for this event is pending, and the meeting will use a hybrid format. Registrants can attend live at McGuireWoods’ Atlanta office or virtually using Zoom. Due to the fluid nature of the COVID-19 pandemic, be mindful that in-person attendees may need to bring masks.
