The San Mateo County Bar Association’s Committee on Professional Equality is hosting a follow-up hybrid program delving deeper into California Code of Civil Procedure §231.7 and its impact on jury selection.
This session features Hon. Robert Foiles (Ret.) and Hon. Jeffrey B. Jackson, who will lead an in-depth discussion on the statute’s application, including its significant implications for civil jury trials beginning in January 2026. Attendees will gain a comprehensive understanding of the statute’s scope and learn practical strategies for navigating these changes in their practice.
The program will also explore how implicit bias—including those related to race, ethnicity, gender identity, sexual orientation, socioeconomic status, and other protected characteristics—can influence jury selection decisions. Participants will leave with tools to identify and mitigate bias in alignment with evolving legal requirements.
Whether or not you attended Part 1, this program offers valuable insights and actionable guidance for attorneys, in-house counsel, and other legal professionals preparing for this critical shift in jury selection procedures.
Lunch will be provided for in-person attendees. For those attending via Zoom, access details will be emailed prior to the event.
