Concurrent Jurisdiction, Competing Protections: Discovery at the Intersection of DVROs and Criminal Law
Friday, May 1
2:35 - 3:50 pm
JAMS neutral Hon. Vanessa A. Zecher (Ret.) will join a panel to lead a workshop exploring the overlapping and competing issues family law practitioners face when allegations of domestic abuse arise in both family and criminal court. Panelists will address key procedural and evidentiary challenges, including discovery in domestic violence restraining order proceedings under Family Code section 6309, which limits application of the Civil Discovery Act and permits discovery only on a showing of good cause. The program will also cover practical strategies for navigating discovery, privilege, and the demands of parallel proceedings.
