D. Bruce Garrow, FCIArb is an internationally recognised expert in the field of aviation law, insurance, and product liability. He is well known for his ability to resolve complex disputes involving insured risks and insurance coverage issues. Bruce has served as a judge pro tem in the Ontario Superior Court of Justice hearing pre-trial conferences for the purpose of promoting settlement of some or all of the issues in dispute without a hearing. Bruce is certified as a specialist in Civil Litigation by the Law Society of Upper Canada. He is also a fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators.

International ADR Experience and Qualifications

  • Lead counsel for an international telecommunications satellite operator in an arbitration involving a satellite manufacturer
  • Lead counsel for insurers (defence and subrogation) in mediations arising from complex litigation involving property and other economic losses, bodily injury, and wrongful death claims caused by aviation accidents, natural gas and LPG fires, explosions and CO poisoning, and product liability claims
  • Lead counsel for international and domestic insurers in mediations arising out of insurance and reinsurance coverage disputes
  • Lead counsel for a leading North American aircraft manufacturer in mediations arising out of claims for bodily injury and wrongful death in Virginia, New Jersey, Texas, Alabama, and elsewhere in North America
  • Lead counsel for a North American pharmaceutical distributor in mediation arising out of product liability claim
  • Associate Counsel in the Air India arbitration between Lloyds All Risk Underwriters and War Risk Underwriters arising out of the 1985 bombings

  • Telesat v. Boeing – arbitration arising out of alleged manufacturing defects in a telecommunications satellite, post-launch
  • Robinson et al. v. Diamond Aircraft et al. – mediation in Texas arising from the wrongful death of a graduate of the U.S. Air Force Academy in Colorado
  • Nunes et al. v. Air Transat et al. – mediation of class action against an engine manufacturer and others arising out of claims resulting from the ditching of an Airbus 8330 in the Azores
  • Amoco Corporation v. Vollmer et al. – counsel at judicial settlement conference involving claims arising from the fire and destruction of a major propane dehydration facility in Windsor, Ontario
  • Bishop v. Trent Drugs et al. - counsel at mediation arising out of claims for bodily injury involving use of pharmaceutical products
