Through the Lens: Focus on Jim Alexander
Jim Alexander, Retired Judge, Oakland County Circuit Court, brings decades of public service, legal insight and pragmatic problem-solving to his role as a mediator and arbitrator at JAMS. A founding jurist of the Oakland County Business Court, Mr. Alexander presided over everything from shareholder disputes to billion-dollar commercial cases. His extensive experience across both the bench and private practice gives him a deep understanding of the legal and practical complexities businesses face.
A firm believer in John Wooden’s maxim “Failing to prepare is preparing to fail,” Mr. Alexander approaches every case with rigor. He reads everything, speaks with the parties in advance and prepares thoroughly so that everyone comes into the process aligned and ready to move forward. His goal? To help parties identify their own best path to resolution.
“A good mediator can help those parties realize what their own solution is and help them come to that.”
While he brings calm to emotional disputes, Mr. Alexander keeps the focus on resolution: “Most of the cases that I see are business cases. They need a business solution.” With insight earned on the bench and sharpened in ADR, he helps parties navigate complexity by cutting through gridlock and finding resolution.
