Hon. Pamela E. Loza (Ret.) joins JAMS in Chicago after nearly two decades of service on the Cook County bench. A leader in the Domestic Relations Division since 2009, Judge Loza served as supervising judge of the former Parentage Department until its merger with the Domestic Relations Division in 2014. During her tenure in Parentage, the department disposed of over 65,000 cases per year.
Judge Loza has practiced domestic relations law for over 45 years. As a member of the Illinois State Bar Association and the statewide Child Support Advisory Committee, she helped author the Illinois Marriage and Dissolution of Marriage Act (IMDMA) Child Support Act, modifications to the IMDMA Maintenance Act and the most recent modifications of the Child Support Act.
Judge Loza’s experience leverages a full array of supporting professionals, including psychiatrists, psychologists, social workers, certified public accountants, business evaluators, real estate appraisers, lifestyle experts and teachers.
Judge Loza has earned a reputation for thorough preparation, a firm grasp of the law and her ability to think outside the box to settle cases and solve human problems. She has worked extensively with professional athletes, franchise owners and other high-profile individuals, as well as with families in Cook County from all walks of life.
In her 45 years of domestic relations work, Judge Loza has either litigated or presided over matters such as:

Representative Matters
- As a judge, mediated and settled numerous marriage dissolutions for high-net-worth and very high-net-worth individuals
- As a judge, mediated and settled many “gray divorce” matters involving older couples at the end of long-term marriages; matters involved special care around division of long-held assets and end-of-life care planning
- Presided over two motions for summary judgment involving whether shares of stock valued in excess of $200 million were marital or nonmarital property; appeal denied
- Presided over two separate trials on issues of child support, lifestyle and parenting time with professional athletes and their spouses
- Adjudicated a matter involving a high-profile athlete modifying the parental decision-making and parenting time of both parents
- As a judge, mediated and settled litigation involving the determination of parenting time, decision-making, child support, extracurricular activities and transportation of minor child of a professional sports franchise owner
- Adjudicated many matters with respect to parental decision-making and parenting time; matters involved considerable trial testimony and reasoned decisions between 25 and 50 pages each
- Adjudicated a parental alienation matter where the wife was the estranger; the children were removed from their mother’s care and successfully reunited with their father following court-ordered unification therapy
- Presided over a 21-day custody trial where the wife/mother’s mental health was at issue
- Presided over a two-week trial to determine jurisdiction and the home state of two minor children, where the children spent equal time in two states; in an issue of first impression, held that Illinois had jurisdiction but both states were home states; affirmed on appeal
