Hon. Patricia M. Lucas (Ret.)
Hon. Patricia M. Lucas (Ret.) is an arbitrator and mediator at JAMS, where she handles complex business disputes. Drawing on decades of experience as a trial judge and trial lawyer, Judge Lucas resolves disputes involving intellectual property, employment, contracts, real estate, and competition issues. She is known for her thorough preparation, careful listening and ability to guide parties toward practical, creative resolutions.
Before joining JAMS, Judge Lucas served on the Santa Clara County Superior Court, where she managed a docket of complex civil cases, handled civil law and motion calendars, and presided over numerous jury and bench trials. She also served as a pro tem justice on the Sixth District Court of Appeal. A respected judicial leader, she served as presiding judge of Santa Clara County, dean of the California Judicial College, and chair of the statewide committee of presiding judges advising the Chief Justice and the Judicial Council.
Also a leader in her litigation practice before taking the bench, Judge Lucas was chair of the litigation group at Fenwick and West, where she represented technology clients in complex civil litigation. She tried cases and argued appeals in state and federal courts.
At JAMS, In addition to acting as an arbitrator and mediator, Judge Lucas serves as a court appointed neutral, discovery referee and neutral evaluator. Mindful that settlement discussions may be the “day in court” for many matters, Judge Lucas strives to understand each party’s needs and interests and to explore creative resolutions.
