Los Angeles – JAMS, the largest private provider of mediation and arbitration services worldwide, is proud to announce that Hon. Carlos Moreno (Ret.) was named a Daily Journal “California Lawyer of the Year.” This annual award recognizes the lawyers throughout the state whose achievements had a significant impact on the law, the legal profession, a particular industry or the community.
Justice Moreno and Hueston Hennigan LLP were awarded with the Government award for investigating a state university system accused of interfering with an audit. Justice Moreno and the law firm took on the high-profile and politically sensitive task of investigating allegations that the University of California’s Office of the President interfered with a state audit.
We are so proud of Justice Moreno for receiving this tremendous honor. His hard work and dedication to this investigation was remarkable and we’re thrilled he has been recognized for all his efforts.
-Chris Poole, JAMS President and CEO
Justice Moreno joined JAMS after a distinguished 25-year career on the judiciary, including 10 years on the California Supreme Court. His diverse ADR practice includes his neutral analysis practice, where he is called upon to evaluate legal and factual theories of a case, often concerning high-stakes litigation. He also oversees investigations such as in his role in the matter concerning a state audit at the U.C. Regents central office. Justice Moreno has been honored with numerous accolades for his work on and off the Bench, recognizing his commitment to equality and justice, his pioneering accomplishments as a Mexican-American, and his work in child advocacy.
