Retired Judge Richard F. McDermott Joins JAMS in Seattle

Former King County Superior Court judge joins JAMS as an arbitrator and mediator

New Panelist Announcement

SEATTLE – JAMS, the largest private provider of mediation and arbitration services worldwide, today announced the addition of Hon. Richard F. McDermott (Ret.) to its panel. Judge McDermott will be based in the JAMS Seattle Resolution Center and serve as an arbitrator and mediator in a variety of disputes including Business/Commercial, Construction, Education/Schools, Employment, Family Law, Government/Public Agency, Insurance, Personal Injury/Torts, Professional Liability and Real Property.

Judge McDermott joined JAMS after a distinguished career on the King County Superior Court bench. In almost 18 years at the court, Judge McDermott tried hundreds of cases in many diverse areas. He began his career as a deputy prosecuting attorney in King County and then as a public defender. Judge McDermott also worked in private practice for more than 20 years, handling a wide variety of personal injury matters, ranging from automobile accidents to slip and falls to product liability claims.

Judge McDermott approaches each matter with objectivity, respect and empathy for all the parties involved. We’re thrilled to have him join us in Seattle.

Judge McDermott received his B.A. magna cum laude from Seattle University and his J.D. from University of Washington School of Law.
