Hon. Michael C. Massengale (Former) Joins JAMS

Former appellate justice for the First Court of Appeals in Houston joins JAMS as an arbitrator and mediator

New Panelist Announcement

Houston – JAMS, the largest private provider of alternative dispute resolution (ADR) services worldwide, is pleased to announce the addition of Hon. Michael C. Massengale (Former) to its panel. Justice Massengale joins JAMS after serving as an appellate justice on the First Court of Appeals in Houston and participating in the resolution of thousands of appeals. He has written more than 600 signed opinions covering a wide range of legal disputes.

Based in Houston, Justice Massengale will serve as an arbitrator, mediator, special master and neutral evaluator handling appellate, business/commercial, civil rights, energy and utilities, financial markets, governmental/public agency, international arbitration and construction disputes. With his experience as an appellate judge, he will also be available to conduct appellate moot sessions, providing clients with neutral assessments of their matters.

Justice Massengale is known for his strong work ethic, well-reasoned opinions and careful approach to every case that comes before him. His background lends itself well to his new role as a neutral at JAMS.

- Chris Poole, JAMS President and CEO

Before his appointment to the appellate court, Justice Massengale practiced law as a trial partner at Baker Botts, where he focused on complex commercial disputes in the areas of commercial, securities, bankruptcy, antitrust, tax and tort litigation.

Justice Massengale serves by appointment of the Supreme Court of Texas as a commissioner on the Texas Access to Justice Commission, which develops and implements initiatives designed to expand access to, and enhance the quality of, justice in civil legal matters for low-income Texans. He is a fellow of the Texas and Houston Bar Foundations and an elected member of the American Law Institute.

I have experience on both sides of the bench, which gives me the ability to view cases from different perspectives. I gained a great deal of experience over 10 years as a judge, and I am looking forward to continuing to serve my community on the panel here at JAMS.

- Justice Michael C. Massengale (Former), JAMS Neutral

Justice Massengale received his A.B. from Dartmouth College and his J.D., with honors, from the University of Texas School of Law.
