Los Angeles – JAMS, the largest private provider of alternative dispute resolution (ADR) services worldwide, is pleased to announce the addition of Edith Matthai to its panel. Ms. Matthai joins JAMS with over 45 years of experience representing clients in complex and high-profile matters. Over the course of her career, she has represented clients in countless mediations and settled well over 1,000 cases.
Ms. Matthai has represented hundreds of lawyers and law firms, from solo practitioners to AmLaw 100 firms, in professional liability actions. Her work has involved evaluating and litigating a wide range of matters that require a deep understanding of both sides to craft effective strategy. She has handled numerous disputes between law firms and departing partners, disputes over the division of fees between successive counsel and innumerable fee disputes between attorneys and their former clients.
Based in the Los Angeles Resolution Center, Ms. Matthai will serve as a mediator, arbitrator, special master/referee and neutral evaluator, handling business/commercial, professional liability, entertainment, family law, probate/trust, real estate/real property, insurance, product liability and appellate cases. She is available to conduct sessions in person, as well as virtually, for clients across the county.
Ms. Matthai’s litigation experience runs the gamut and has helped her build a reputation for creativity, fairness and serving clients at all stages of a dispute. Throughout her career, she has been lead counsel on high-stakes matters and has demonstrated her aptitude for navigating complex cases and securing strong outcomes for her clients.
- Chris Poole, JAMS CEO
Beyond professional liability matters, Ms. Matthai has handled and tried insurance bad faith cases, a variety of commercial litigation matters, real estate disputes, product liability cases and personal injury cases. She has also represented over 300 judicial officers in proceedings before the California Commission on Judicial Performance. That representation has provided valuable insight into the workings of the courts and the view from the bench. Ms. Matthai has served on the board of directors of American Business Bank since 2013.
Throughout my years as a practicing litigator, I have learned that the ability to wear many hats and pivot the perspective from which I’m evaluating a case can be fundamental to determining the best pathway forward. I believe that this skill lends itself greatly to ADR, and I look forward to continuing to serve parties of all backgrounds across a wide variety of industries.
- Edith Matthai.
Ms. Matthai received her B.A., cum laude, from the University of California, Santa Barbara, and her J.D. from the University of California, Hastings College of Law.
