Century City, Calif. – JAMS, the largest private provider of alternative dispute resolution (ADR) services worldwide, is pleased to announce the addition of Santiago "Sam" Fernandez, Esq., to its panel. Mr. Fernandez joins JAMS after over 38 years overseeing all legal affairs for Major League Baseball’s Los Angeles Dodgers.
In his role with the Dodgers, Mr. Fernandez was responsible for supervising disputed or litigated matters relating to all facets of the company’s business. His duties also included negotiating and drafting contracts with the team’s broadcasting partners, concessionaires, sponsors and players; licensing the team’s marks and other intellectual property; and leasing the stadium for concerts and films.
Based in the Century City Resolution Center, Mr. Fernandez will serve as a mediator, handling business/commercial, entertainment and sports, employment, intellectual property and personal injury/torts cases. He is available to conduct sessions in person, as well as virtually, for clients around the world.
Mr. Fernandez has unparalleled experience within the sports industry and the areas of the law that underpin it. He is a trusted advisor and leader within the legal industry and has a keen sense for navigating complex and high-stakes matters.
- Chris Poole, JAMS CEO
While with the Dodgers, Mr. Fernandez worked on matters ranging from the establishment of the Dodgers’ training facility in the Dominican Republic in 1986 to serving on the Board of Directors of Major League Baseball Properties, Inc. He has been recognized with numerous awards, including Sports Counsel of the Year by the Association of Media and Entertainment Counsel (AMEC) in 2009 and Outstanding Corporate Counsel of the Year by the Los Angeles County Bar Association’s Corporate Law Departments Section in 2013, and was named one of America’s 50 Outstanding General Counsel by the National Law Journal in 2014.
Throughout my career, I’ve worked to find negotiated solutions to costly disputes, dealt with difficult and often high-profile public relations issues and successfully structured many varied and complicated business transactions in a number of different industries. In doing so, I’ve brought together diverse parties with differing interests to arrive at constructive solutions. That’s the experience that I bring to the dispute resolution process. I look forward to this next chapter of my career and applying my skill set to mediating cases.
- Santiago "Sam" Fernandez, Esq.
Mr. Fernandez earned his B.A., magna cum laude, from the University of California, Los Angeles, and his J.D. from the University of California College of the Law, San Francisco (formerly Hastings College of Law), where he was inducted into the Order of the Coif.
