Intellectual property is an integral part of businesses. Many businesses will, at some point, will want to protect their own intellectual property, or cross paths with a competitor who is protecting their own intellectual property. Some business may even spar with a non-competitor asserting intellectual property. In any case, intellectual property often leads to intellectual property litigation. It’s useful for business lawyers to have a working knowledge of the essentials of intellectual property litigation. And, while it is not possible to cover all aspects of intellectual property litigation, this article and associated panel discussion is designed to address some of the more commonly-encountered aspects of intellectual property litigation so that business lawyers, who are not IP specialists, can operate comfortably and conversantly in the space, or at least know when action must be taken and when help is needed.
