Los Angeles – JAMS, the largest private provider of mediation and arbitration services worldwide, announced that the Los Angeles Business Journal awarded John “Jay” Welsh with a Corporate Counsel of the Year award.
The Corporate Counsel awards acknowledge the role that in-house counsel plays in the success of a business enterprise and recognize the accomplishments of leading in-house attorneys within the Los Angeles business community. Candidates in each category are recognized for exceptional legal skill and achievement across the full spectrum of in-house responsibility, exemplary leadership as evidenced by the highest professional and ethical standards, and for contributions to the Los Angeles community at large.
“We’re so proud of Jay and thrilled that he’s receiving the recognition that he truly deserves,” said Chris Poole, JAMS president and CEO. “Jay is the glue that holds JAMS together. His keen insights, commanding and charismatic demeanor and impressive ability to forge strong relationships inside and outside the organization are some of the reasons why Jay deserved this nomination.”
Welsh joined JAMS in 1991 and has played a prominent role in its success, but also in the growth of alternative dispute resolution worldwide. As executive vice president and general counsel, Welsh lead the expansion of JAMS to 22 Resolution Centers around the country and abroad. He has been an educator for the JAMS Institute, which provides training to JAMS neutrals, attorneys and other legal professionals worldwide. He has also been a driving force in making the JAMS Foundation the largest private foundation in the ADR community, which has provided more than $3 million in conflict resolution initiatives worldwide.
