Los Angeles – JAMS announced that Jeffrey G. Benz, Esq. was appointed by the Council of the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) as a member of the IAAF Disciplinary Tribunal.
The IAAF is the international governing body for the sport of athletics. The Disciplinary Tribunal is required to act independently of the IAAF and is expected to play a vital role in safeguarding the integrity of athletics as a sport.
The establishment of an independent disciplinary body is one of the reforms introduced under the leadership of IAAF President in the wake of a number of scandals that has rocked the sports world in recent years.
Mr. Benz is one of only 300 Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) arbitrators worldwide and is among the most frequently selected American arbitrators. He is the former Disciplinary Tribunal chair for Rugby Football Union in London and a member of Sport Resolutions panels in the UK. He has served as a neutral in several hundred large and complex arbitrations and mediations employing various rules and before the major administering institutions, both nationally and internationally.
Mr. Benz’s appointment is through September 2019.
