SAN DIEGO – JAMS, the largest private provider of alternative dispute resolution (ADR) services worldwide, is pleased to announce the addition of the Hon. Gerald Jessop (Ret.) to its panel. Judge Jessop, a certified family law specialist since 1991, joins JAMS following 20 years of service as a judge with the San Diego Superior Court. During his tenure with the Superior Court, he was assigned to the Family Law Division for 13 years, where he presided over complex dissolutions involving the characterization and division of property, child custody (including move-away disputes) and child and spousal support matters. He was also assigned for five years to the Probate Division, where he presided over the administration of probate estates, trusts, guardianships and conservatorships.
Based in the San Diego Resolution Center, Judge Jessop will serve as an arbitrator and mediator in a variety of practice areas, including family law and probate.
Judge Jessop is known for his charismatic personality along with his ability to listen to all of the facts objectively. We are eager for him to offer his understanding and knowledge of family law as part of our San Diego panel.
-Chris Poole, JAMS President and CEO
Prior to his election to the bench in 1998, Judge Jessop was a partner at the law firm of Ward, Thorn & Jessop and a probate trust officer with San Diego Trust & Savings Bank. Additionally, Judge Jessop taught family law at the University of California San Diego Extension program and volunteered his time on the Family Law Panel.
I have developed a deep understanding of family law over the years and find it very gratifying to help parties resolve difficult disputes. My work as a neutral with JAMS marks a new chapter in my career. I am proud to have the opportunity to continue to work in this challenging field of law.
-Hon. Gerald Jessop (Ret.), JAMS Arbitrator and Mediator
In 2019, Judge Jessop was recognized as the Outstanding Family Law Judge of San Diego County by the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers for his work on the family law bench.
