New Panelist Announcement

Miami – JAMS, the largest private provider of alternative dispute resolution (ADR) services worldwide, is pleased to announce the addition of Hon. John W. Thornton, Jr. (Retired Judge 11th Judicial Circuit), to its panel. Mr. Thornton joins JAMS after serving more than 12 years as a circuit court judge in the Eleventh Judicial Circuit of Florida, including several years heading the Circuit’s complex business litigation section. Prior to his appointment to the circuit court in 2007, Mr. Thornton was a co-founding partner of Thornton & Rothman, P.A., where he represented individual and institutional clients. Before entering private practice in 1980, he was an Assistant State Attorney for Miami-Dade County.

Based in the Miami Resolution Center, Mr. Thornton will serve as an arbitrator, mediator and special master/referee and handle business/commercial, class action and mass tort, construction, employment, health care, insurance, personal injury/torts and professional liability matters.

Mr. Thornton has a deep understanding of the complexities of the law and has built a reputation on his ability to approach matters thoroughly and objectively. We are looking forward to having him join the panel in Miami.

Mr. Thornton has been a leader in the legal community for many years, serving for a decade on the Florida Bar Board of Governors, as president of the Florida Bar Foundation, the Bar’s charitable arm, and as President of the Dade County Bar Association.  He has also dedicated himself to pro bono causes, including serving as chair of the board of directors of Camillus Health Concern, a private, nonprofit organization that provides comprehensive health and social services to the homeless population in Miami-Dade County, and as a member of the Indigent Services Committee for the Eleventh Judicial Circuit of Florida.

I’m honored to have served my community over the years and am committed to helping parties resolve disputes in my role as a neutral at JAMS. Working alongside the other panelists at JAMS is a new chapter that I’m really looking forward to.
