Hon. Marcy Friedman (Ret.) Joins JAMS in New York

Former New York Supreme Court Justice joins JAMS as arbitrator, mediator and special master/referee

New Panelist Announcement

New York – JAMS, the largest private provider of alternative dispute resolution (ADR) services worldwide, is pleased to announce the addition of Hon. Marcy Friedman (Ret.) to its panel. Justice Friedman joins JAMS after having served as a judge in New York state courts for nearly 30 years. Since 2000, she has presided in the Supreme Court of the State of New York, New York County, where she was appointed to the court’s Center for Complex Litigation.

Based in the New York Resolution Center, Justice Friedman will serve as an arbitrator, mediator and special master/referee, handling disputes in banking, business and commercial, employment, entertainment, financial markets, government and public agency, insurance, real property and securities matters.

Justice Friedman is widely respected and known for her meticulous attention to detail and tenacious, evenhanded pursuit of justice. We are thrilled to have her join our panel as a JAMS neutral.

- Chris Poole, JAMS CEO

In 2012, Justice Friedman was appointed to the Commercial Division and was designated to hear all residential mortgage-backed securities (RMBS) cases filed after 2013. In this assignment, she heard dozens of RMBS fraud, breach of contract and investor actions against securitizers and mortgage originators, as well as cases seeking judicial approval of settlements of these actions and judicial instructions as to the distribution of settlement payments to various classes of investors.

At a time when the usefulness of ADR is unparalleled, I will bring an unfailing commitment to fairness as well as a habit of scholarship and careful listening to all of my work. I am grateful and eager to begin this work as a JAMS neutral.

- Hon. Marcy Friedman (Ret.)

Justice Friedman received her B.A., magna cum laude, from Smith College, attended St. Anne’s College, Oxford University and earned her J.D., cum laude, from University of Pennsylvania School of Law.
