Hon. Regina S. Cahan (Ret.) Joins JAMS in Seattle

Former King County Superior Court judge joins JAMS as arbitrator, mediator, special master/referee and neutral evaluator

New Panelist Announcement

Seattle – JAMS, the largest private provider of alternative dispute resolution (ADR) services worldwide, is pleased to announce the addition of Hon. Regina S. Cahan (Ret.) to its panel. Judge Cahan joins JAMS following a distinguished and varied legal career, including 14 years on the King County Superior Court bench, 10 years as an employment litigator and 10 years as a criminal prosecutor.

Based in the Seattle Resolution Center, Judge Cahan will serve as an arbitrator, mediator, special master/referee and neutral evaluator handling employment, medical malpractice, personal injury, business/commercial, real property and family law disputes. She is available to conduct sessions in person, as well as virtually, for attorneys and their clients across the country.

Judge Cahan is known for her approachable and considerate nature and works tirelessly to help parties come to a resolution. This, along with her background and judicial experience, make her an excellent addition to the JAMS panel.

- Chris Poole, JAMS CEO

As a jurist, Judge Cahan presided over numerous employment, medical malpractice, personal injury, commercial, dependency and family law trials. Recognized by both the legal community and her peers, Judge Cahan was chosen to chair the King County Commercially Sexually Exploited Children Task Force and the court’s Personnel Committee, and was elected to the court’s Executive Committee. She also served as chief civil judge for two years (2020–2021) and helped steer the court through the unprecedented challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic. The court lead the nation and remained uniquely productive by pioneering the transition to remote civil bench and jury trials.

I’ve found that listening intently and being empathetic are effective in resolving disputes. My background and experience are well suited for this role. I am looking forward to embarking on this new chapter of my career at JAMS.

- Hon. Regina S. Cahan (Ret.)

Judge Cahan received her J.D. and Master of Social Work from the University of Wisconsin.
