Patrick J. Coyne, Esq., Joins JAMS in Washington, D.C.

Distinguished trial and appellate attorney joins JAMS as an arbitrator, mediator, court-appointed neutral (referee/special master) and neutral evaluator

Washington, D.C. – JAMS, the premier provider of alternative dispute resolution (ADR) services worldwide, is pleased to announce that Patrick J. Coyne, Esq., has joined its panel. Mr. Coyne joins following a distinguished multi-decade career as a trial and appellate attorney known for his depth of experience in intellectual property law, including patent, trademark, copyright, data rights, privacy and trade secret matters.

Mr. Coyne worked at Finnegan, Henderson, Farabow, Garrett & Dunner from 2003 to 2024 and at Collier, Shannon & Scott from 1984 to 2003. He has tried and argued more than 100 cases in state and federal courts, including before the United States Supreme Court. He has represented clients before the United States International Trade Commission, the Patent Trial and Appeal Board, and the Trademark Trial and Appeal Board. He is also a seasoned ADR professional who handles domestic and international arbitrations and mediations. He has deftly negotiated hundreds of settlements on behalf of clients and has participated in formal and informal mediation in virtually every case in which he has appeared as counsel of record for over 40 years.

Based in the Washington, D.C., Resolution Center, Mr. Coyne will serve as an arbitrator, mediator, court-appointed neutral (referee/special master) and neutral evaluator, handling antitrust and competition, appellate, aviation, business and commercial, federal law, intellectual property, pharmaceutical and mass tort, and telecommunications matters. He is available to conduct sessions in person, as well as virtually, for clients across the country and internationally.

Mr. Coyne has held significant leadership roles in multiple professional organizations, including serving as president of the American Intellectual Property Law Association (AIPLA), Federal Circuit Bar Association and Federal Circuit Historical Society. His contributions to the legal field have been recognized by Intellectual Asset Management, The Legal 500 and Best Lawyers. Earlier in his career, Mr. Coyne worked as an engineer, enabling him to understand and assist parties in resolving legal matters involving complex technologies.

Mr. Coyne earned his B.S., with high distinction, from the University of Virginia and his J.D. from the University of Virginia School of Law.
