Angel M. Bermudez American Inn of Court. The official renaming took place at an event on Nov. 6 and honored Hon. Angel M. Bermudez (Ret.) for his contributions to the region’s legal education and mentorship.
Founded by Judge Bermudez in 2011 and based in Temecula, California, the Southwest American Inn of Court is a professional organization dedicated to advancing advocacy skills and promoting professionalism, civility and ethical awareness within the legal community. Modeled after the American Inn of Court, it provides a collaborative forum where judges, attorneys and law students come together for education, mentorship and collegial exchange.

Judge Bermudez joined JAMS after more than 18 years on the Riverside County Superior Court, where he presided over a wide range of complex civil, business and family law matters. His judicial career encompassed cases involving product liability, catastrophic personal injury, contract and commercial disputes, professional negligence and real property issues.
Before his appointment to the bench, Judge Bermudez served 16 years as a senior deputy district attorney specializing in white-collar crime. During that time, he briefly left the District Attorney’s Office to serve as the City Attorney for Indio and the Indio Water Authority, before returning to complete his prosecutorial career. Known for his fairness, preparation, and pragmatic approach, he earned wide respect for resolving high-conflict matters with civility and efficiency.
