Michael J. Timpane, Esq., Rejoins JAMS in San Francisco
Construction-focused attorney and ADR professional rejoins JAMS as a mediator, arbitrator, court-appointed neutral (special master/referee) and neutral evaluator
San Francisco – JAMS, the premier provider of alternative dispute resolution (ADR) services worldwide, is pleased to announce that Michael J. Timpane, Esq., has rejoined its panel. He brings more than four decades of experience resolving complex construction disputes involving payment claims, delay and disruption issues, and related counterclaims. His work includes projects involving water treatment and pumping facilities, prisons, schools, public buildings, and large commercial, retail and residential developments.
Over the course of his career, Mr. Timpane has resolved more than 1,000 matters in roles including mediator, arbitrator, early neutral evaluator, court-appointed referee, special master, project neutral and chair or member of dispute resolution boards. Most recently, he maintained his own ADR practice, Timpane Dispute Resolution, from 2024 to 2025. From 2012 to 2024, he served as a partner and resident neutral at SMTD Law LLP. Prior to this role, he worked as a mediator and arbitrator at JAMS from 2008 to 2012 on its Global Engineering and Construction Panel as well as its Construction Defect, Insurance Coverage and Real Property panels.
Based in the San Francisco Resolution Center, Mr. Timpane will serve as a mediator, arbitrator, court-appointed neutral (special master/referee) and neutral evaluator, handling engineering and construction, construction, construction defect and insurance matters. He is available to conduct sessions in person, as well as virtually, for clients across the country and internationally.

Mr. Timpane began his career as a trial lawyer at Knecht, Haley, Lawrence & Smith, where he focused on construction, surety, construction defect, real estate, insurance coverage and complex commercial litigation. He later co-founded and served as the managing partner at Wolkin & Timpane, LLP (later known as Wolkin Curran, LLP). He has also held several other professional roles, including supporting the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California’s mediation panel as well as the Superior Courts of Marin, Alameda and Contra Costa.

Mr. Timpane earned his J.D. from the University of California, Berkeley School of Law and his B.A., With Distinction, from the University of Virginia.
