Hon. Mildred E. “Mimi” Methvin (Ret.) Joins JAMS in Minneapolis
Former federal judge and seasoned dispute resolution professional joins as an arbitrator, mediator, court-appointed neutral (special master/referee) and neutral evaluator
Minneapolis – JAMS, the premier provider of alternative dispute resolution (ADR) services worldwide, is pleased to announce that Hon. Mildred E. “Mimi” Methvin (Ret.) has joined its panel. Judge Methvin brings decades of experience facilitating thousands of settlements on the federal bench during her 30-year judicial career.
Appointed as the nation’s youngest federal judge, Judge Methvin served first in the Western District of Louisiana, then in the Mid-Atlantic through recall service. Over the course of her tenure, including her service as a Louisiana district judge pro tempore in 2014, she conducted more than 1,200 settlement conferences and mediations, including complex class actions, collective actions and multiparty disputes. Since 2009, she has maintained a robust ADR practice at Satori ADR, mediating and arbitrating civil disputes across the United States.
Based in the Minneapolis Resolution Center, Judge Methvin will serve as an arbitrator, mediator, court-appointed neutral (special master/referee) and neutral evaluator, handling business and commercial, civil rights, class action and mass tort, employment, environmental, insurance, personal injury and product liability matters. She is available to conduct sessions in person, as well as virtually, for clients across the country and internationally.
“Judge Methvin’s distinguished judicial career and extensive experience in ADR make her a tremendous asset to our panel. Her ability to manage multifaceted cases with insight and balance will benefit parties seeking resolution in Minneapolis and beyond.”
Kimberly Taylor, JAMS CEO and president
Known for her innovative approaches, Judge Methvin pioneered the use of summary jury trials and tiered settlement processes in her district. She is widely recognized for her intellectual rigor, evenhandedness and creative problem-solving in complex disputes. Earlier in her career, she also held roles as an assistant United States attorney in the Western District of Louisiana and as a staff attorney in the Office of Surface Mining of the U.S. Department of Interior.
“I have facilitated thousands of settlements as a federal magistrate judge, mediator and arbitrator. At JAMS, I bring that experience to resolving simple and complex disputes alike, with careful preparation, attentive listening and a steady approach that keeps discussions productive,” said Judge Methvin.
Judge Methvin earned her J.D. from Georgetown University Law Center and her B.A. from Tulane University.
