HNBA/VIA Corporate Counsel Conference

The HNBA/VIA Corporate Counsel Conference will be held from March 20-22, 2024 at the Sheraton Seattle. Don’t miss out on three days of non-stop educational programs, enlightening speakers, networking opportunities, and the finest entertainment around. Attendees will have the opportunity to obtain CLE credits in a wide variety of topics. The National Moot Court Competition will also take place during the conference. The annual event brings together up to 32 teams of law students from the nation’s top law schools to argue a case currently before the U.S. Supreme Court. Students will be challenged to brief and argue their position creatively and persuasively. $60,000 in scholarship funds will be awarded to the winning teams. JAMS neutrals Hon. Ariel E. Belen (Ret.), FCIArb and Judge Chad Allred (Ret.) will be supporting the competition.

The Future of Workplace Diversity Initiatives Post the Supreme Court's SFFA Decision

This panel will cover some practical steps that can be taken to further ingrain DEI into your organizations post-SFFA. The panel will discuss state legislative initiatives that would prohibit the use of state funds to support diversity, equity and inclusion employment efforts in or by state government and will examine the changing legal landscape. Attendees should walk away feeling confident in making simple adaptations to current DEI programs that can make an even greater positive impact in their organizations. We will also cover international updates on similar cases across the globe and discuss how global organizations can approach this topic.

The panel will discuss: (1) importance of dispute resolution clauses and best practices for drafting the same; (2) key differences between domestic litigation and international arbitration (e.g., case management approach, discovery differences, enforcement considerations); and (3) unique advantages of diverse attorneys (e.g., language skills and cultural affinity).
