Resolve Talks: A Provocative Series on the Cutting Edge of Dispute Resolution

Presented by the Dialogue Through Conflict Foundation and the University of Camerino, supported by JAMS

The Dialogue Through Conflict Foundation (DTC) is excited to launch Resolve Talks: A Provocative Series on the Cutting Edge of Dispute Resolution. Hosted by DTC president and JAMS neutral Giuseppe De Palo, Esq., the series brings together alternative dispute resolution specialists and leaders from civil society, academia, business, government, and international organizations. They will engage in discussions on some of the most critical challenges facing society and the planet, where ADR is not just the best, but perhaps the only, way forward.
In the inaugural episode of Resolve Talks, JAMS New York Resolution Center welcomes an international delegation of Law Professors and PhD students from the EU-sponsored project Escop4Green, led by the University of Camerino (Italy). Guided by the inspiration of Professor Lucia Ruggeri and centered on the Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence policy approach, the discussion will focus on the pitfalls similar approaches face due to the lack of proper dispute resolution mechanisms. Additional case studies will be presented by Professor Manuel Ignacio Feliu Rey from Carlos III University (Spain).
To underscore the remarkable potential of dialogue-seeking mechanisms in highly controversial contexts, the episode will then delve into a case study from Colombia. Here, civil society intervention, discussed by DTC Principal Senior Expert Marcela Prieto-Botero, played a pivotal role in a groundbreaking program where armed groups voluntarily surrendered their weapons.
Professor Andrea Schneider, Director of the Kukin Program in Dispute Resolution at Cardozo Law School, will conclude the episode addressing the fundamental contribution of effective dispute resolution education, with examples of the dynamic interplay between academia and civil society at large.
