JAMS is proud to sponsor the LERA program, Black and Women’s History Month Celebration. Authors Marlene Trestman and Phela Townsend, Ph.D. will be speaking on this program hosted in the JAMS New York office. Please find additional information on the speakers below:
Marlene Trestman (Author of “Fair Labor Lawyer, The Remarkable Life of New Deal Attorney and Supreme Court Advocate Bessie Margolin” [Book available for purchase at the event]) will discuss how Ms. Margolin shaped modern American labor policy while opening doors for female lawyers in the nation’s highest courts. She was the only woman on the brilliant legal team that kept FDR’s New Deal alive; as Associate Solicitor of Labor, she shepherded from their enactment the Fair Labor Standards Act and Equal Pay Act.
Phela Townsend, Ph.D., (Author of “When We Say Labor Rights Are Universal, Who Actually Feels Protected and Who is Left Carrying The Risk?”) will highlight Black worker pathways to building power and durable labor protections when the system doesn’t automatically deliver them, drawing lessons from Black labor leaders including A. Philip Randolph and the ongoing work of unions and Black worker centers today.
Pricing: $10 per registrant (NO CLE will be provided)
