The Gertrude Rush Conference & Awards is an annual event of the National Bar Association that recognizes the legacy of Gertrude Elzora Durden Rush, the first African American woman admitted to the Iowa bar and the only woman among the NBA’s founders. The conference brings together legal professionals and community leaders for educational sessions, keynote presentations, and the Gertrude Rush Awards Gala.

The Ethics and Mechanics of Effective Settlement Techniques
Saturday, March 28th, 2026 | 1:30 pm to 3:00 pm
The panel will discuss strategies for mediating both complex and common cases – for state and federal courts. The panel will examine how to better monetize, for settlement purposes, cultural differences and traumatic injuries. The panelist will use hypotheticals to identify and develop individualized or authentic settlement styles.
