NEW YORK – JAMS, the largest private provider of mediation and arbitration services worldwide, today announced the addition of the Hon. Sebastian P. Lombardi (Ret.). Judge Lombardi will be based in the JAMS New York Resolution Center and serve as a mediator, arbitrator and special master in a variety of disputes including Business/Commercial, Class Action/Mass Tort, Employment, Environmental, Insurance, Pharmaceuticals/Mass Tort and Personal Injury/Torts.
Judge Lombardi spent 15 years as a New Jersey Superior Court civil division judge before retiring in 2015. During his years on the bench, he handled all of the court’s environmental and toxic tort cases, including “The Passaic River Litigation” (NJDEP v. Occidental el al), a complex dispute involving 307 parties that ultimately settled for more than $335 million. He also tried complex cases involving toxic torts, product liability, employment discrimination, medical malpractice and catastrophic injury. Before taking the bench, Judge Lombardi spent two decades as a litigation attorney.
Since retiring from the Superior Court, Judge Lombardi has mediated environmental and personal injury cases. His environmental mediation work has involved the cleanup of polluted residential and commercial sites; cost determination of investigation and testing; and, remediating contaminated soil and ground water on and off site. The personal injury matters include those involving issues of permanent disability, punitive damages, and right of subrogation by workers compensation providers, Medicaid, Medicare and private health care providers.
Judge Lombardi has an excellent reputation as a seasoned jurist and mediator, particularly in the areas of environmental and personal injury disputes.
