Washington, D.C. – JAMS announced that Hon. Richard A. Levie (Ret.) was appointed to serve as a special master to oversee discovery in a multidistrict litigation alleging American Airlines, Southwest Airlines, Delta and United Airlines colluded to limit domestic flight capacity and hike prices.
Judge Levie will handle all disputes or matters relating to discovery in the MDL, in which the four major U.S. airlines are accused of conspiring in 2009 to fix capacity and routes. He will oversee claims of privilege, motions to compel, motions for protective order, scheduling, e-discovery, expert discovery and other matters, according to the order from U.S. District Judge Colleen Kollar-Kotelly, overseeing the MDL. A separate U.S. Department of Justice investigation of potential collusion within the airline industry is still ongoing.
Judge Levie is based in Washington, D.C. and mediates, arbitrates and serves as a case evaluator and special master in a large variety of complex business and commercial disputes. He has more than three decades of experience handling complex business and related cases as a litigator, judge and neutral.
