ATLANTA – JAMS, the largest private provider of mediation and arbitration services worldwide, is pleased to announce neutral Joan Grafstein has been elected president of the Atlanta International Arbitration Society (“AtlAS”) for the 2018-2019 term.
AtlAS is a non-profit organization that works to position Atlanta as a premier hearing location for the resolution of international commercial disputes. The organization promotes the growth of the international arbitration community in the southeastern United States, and works with government, legal and judicial leaders to ensure that Georgia’s legislation and bar rules are supportive of international arbitration and create an environment that is conducive to the fair, efficient and cost-effective resolution of cross-border business disputes.
AtlAS made an excellent choice in electing Joan to president. She is a talented, experienced neutral who has a demonstrated passion for international arbitration, and I believe she will be instrumental in furthering AtlAS’ mission to promote and enhance international arbitration in the Atlanta legal community.
-Chris Poole, JAMS President and CEO
Ms. Grafstein joined JAMS in 2003 after over twenty years as in-house counsel for large public and private research universities where she managed litigation and mediation and handled a wide variety of claims and business disputes. As an arbitrator and mediator, Ms. Grafstein is known for resolving a wide array of disputes, including arbitrating numerous business commercial disputes.
She has been an active member of AtlAS, serving in multiple leadership roles over the past seven years, most recently as Vice President. Ms. Grafstein will continue her full-time ADR practice while serving as President of AtlAS.
I am truly honored to take on this new role and feel gratitude for the opportunity to lead AtlAS in its mission. My experience with the organization has shown me how significant AtlAS is to the global business community and the importance of its work in promoting Atlanta as a premier venue for international arbitration.
