Hon. Michael T. Mason (Ret.) Joins JAMS in Chicago

Former Magistrate Judge will serve as arbitrator, mediator and special master

New Panelist Announcement

CHICAGO – JAMS, the largest private provider of alternative dispute resolution (ADR) services worldwide, is pleased to welcome Hon. Michael T. Mason (Ret.) to its panel. Judge Mason joins JAMS after 17 years of distinguished service as a magistrate judge for the United States District Court for the Northern District of Illinois. During his time on the bench, Judge Mason presided over thousands of civil and criminal cases in both trial and pre-trial stages, including jury and bench trials in civil rights, employment, complex commercial, intellectual property and tort actions. Many civil settlement conferences required resolution of insurance issues, both between insurers and the parties and in complex cases between insurers.

Based in the Chicago Resolution Center, Judge Mason is serving as an arbitrator, mediator and special master in a wide variety of disputes, including banking, business/commercial, civil rights, employment, intellectual property and personal injury/torts.

Judge Mason has earned respect from the bar for his respectful and measured approach to challenging legal and business issues. These qualities, coupled with his ability to grasp legal positions quickly, make him an excellent addition to the JAMS panel.

-Chris Poole, JAMS President and CEO

Before his appointment to the bench, Judge Mason served for over 24 years as staff attorney and then chief trial attorney for the Federal Defender Program in the Northern District of Illinois.

Throughout the course of my career—whether it was on the bench or as an attorney—my intention was always to ensure parties were respected and were given a voice as part of the legal process. Making a difference is important to me, and I’m looking forward to continuing to make an impact as a neutral at JAMS.

-Hon. Michael T. Mason (Ret.), JAMS Arbitrator, Mediator, and Special Master

Judge Mason received his B.A. in government from the University of Arizona and earned his J.D. from John Marshall Law School. In addition, he served as a sergeant, with secret clearance, in the United States Army.
