London – JAMS, the largest private provider of alternative dispute resolution (ADR) services worldwide, is pleased to announce the addition of Stephen Townley, FCIArb, to its panel. Mr. Townley is a lawyer, businessman and seasoned ADR professional with extensive expertise resolving high-value legal and business disputes in Asia, the Middle East and North America. His diverse litigation and transactional background includes the founding of Townleys, the first and largest international sports law and media boutique outside the United States, in 1983. It merged in 2001 with global 100 law firm Hammonds (now Squire Patton Boggs), where he served as head of international. He also served as general counsel and foreign law consultant for a number of firms.
Mr. Townley will serve in the London and New York Resolution Centers as an arbitrator and mediator in a wide variety of disputes, including business/commercial, financial markets, international, intellectual property, entertainment and sports (including esports), and technology.
With his extensive experience as an arbitrator and mediator, along with his ability to overcome obstacles and defuse difficult disputes, Mr. Townley is well positioned to become a neutral. We are looking forward to welcoming him to the JAMS panel.

Mr. Townley is an arbitrator and mediator for the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) and for the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO). He is also recognized as a trailblazer in sports and media rights. He worked on the legal structures and agreements for the first commercial programs for the Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA), the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA), the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) and the International Olympic Committee (IOC). He was involved in the creation of the Rugby World Cup, Cricket World Cup, World Games and European Rugby Champions Cup.
My background is quite diverse, which I believe gives me a unique perspective that I can bring to the JAMS panel. I’ve mediated and arbitrated cases all over the world and am looking forward to bringing this experience with me as I embark on this new chapter of my career.

Mr. Townley has been a founder, board member and investor, operating at a senior level in commercial organizations, governments and sports federations. As a strategic adviser, he has chaired Synchro Arts, an international market leader in software production for music editing and recording, which in 2018 was honored with a National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences Technical Emmy. He has advised law firms, charities, sports agencies and national and international sports federations. A champion of progress and innovation, he is the founder of LawAccord and was involved in the creation of the SportAccord Conference, two significant developments in the international sports marketplace.
Mr. Townley received a London Intercollegiate LL.M. from the University College and the London School of Economics and earned his Academic LL.B. from London University.
