Hon. John C. Griffin (Ret.) Joins JAMS in Chicago

Former appellate judge joins JAMS as arbitrator, mediator and special master/referee

New Panelist Announcement

Chicago – JAMS, the largest private provider of alternative dispute resolution (ADR) services worldwide, is pleased to announce the addition of Hon. John C. Griffin (Ret.) to its panel. Judge Griffin joins JAMS after a decade of service to the Illinois judiciary, including three years in the Mortgage Foreclosure/Mechanic's Lien Section of the Chancery Division and five years as supervising judge of the Commercial Calendar Section of the Law Division. In May 2018, Judge Griffin was appointed to the Illinois Appellate Court, First District.

Based in the Chicago Resolution Center, Judge Griffin will serve as an arbitrator, mediator and special master/referee, handling business and commercial; construction; construction defect; employment; insurance; professional liability; real property; appellate; mass torts; estates, probate and trusts; and personal injury and torts disputes. He is also available for virtual proceedings nationwide.

Judge Griffin has a unique blend of experience that will lend itself well to becoming a neutral at JAMS. With his extensive experience in the construction field and his broad understanding of the law and ADR, we are confident that he’ll make an excellent addition to our panel in Chicago.

- Chris Poole, JAMS President and CEO

Prior to his appointment to the bench, Judge Griffin had a wide-ranging litigation practice for over 30 years. He also practiced in federal district court and bankruptcy court. As an attorney, he did appellate work in state court and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit.

Judge Griffin’s practice included extensive transactional experience, particularly in the construction field, where he represented numerous builders and developers in zoning, developments and related corporate matters.

Over the years, I have been dedicated to helping parties achieve resolution by understanding all of the complexities and dynamics in a case, along with being fair and respectful. I’m looking forward to continuing to help resolve disputes as a neutral on the JAMS panel in Chicago.

-  Hon. John C. Griffin (Ret.)

Judge Griffin received his B.B.A., with honors, from University of Notre Dame and his J.D., cum laude, from DePaul University College of Law.
