Former appellate court judge joins JAMS as an arbitrator, mediator, special master/referee and neutral evaluator

Atlanta – JAMS, the largest private provider of alternative dispute resolution (ADR) services worldwide, is pleased to announce that Hon. Beverly B. Martin (Ret.) has joined its panel. Judge Martin joins JAMS after serving for over two decades as a member of the federal judiciary in Georgia.

Judge Martin began her legal career in private practice in Georgia and was hired as an assistant attorney general for the State of Georgia in 1984. In that role, she represented the State of Georgia in civil cases throughout the state. In 1994, she became an assistant United States attorney, prosecuting criminal cases in the Middle District of Georgia. In 1997, she was confirmed as a U.S. attorney for the Middle District of Georgia, and she led that office until she returned to Atlanta to join the federal bench. In 2000, she was appointed to the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Georgia, where she served for a decade. In 2010, she was confirmed to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit.

Based in the Atlanta Resolution Center, Judge Martin will serve as an arbitrator, mediator, special master/referee and neutral evaluator, handling federal, appellate, business/commercial, employment, bankruptcy, insurance and product liability cases. She is available to conduct sessions in person, as well as virtually, for clients across the country and internationally.

Judge Martin is a fierce advocate for justice and a dedicated member of the legal community. Her approach to handling cases employs a balance of attention to detail, fairness and thoughtful decision-making, and she is revered among her peers for her decades of service on the bench and depth of legal knowledge.

Most recently, Judge Martin served as the executive director for the Center on Civil Justice at New York University. Her legal acumen and commitment to justice and fairness have been hallmarks of her professional journey. An active member of the legal community, Judge Martin is a board member of the Campaign Legal Center and of the Southern Center for Human Rights. She is also part of the board of advisors for organizations including Mothers Behind Bars and the National Incarceration Association.

Judge Martin earned her B.A. from Stetson University and her J.D. from the University of Georgia School of Law.
