Hon. Jill Fannin (Ret.) Rejoins JAMS in Walnut Creek

Retired Contra Costa Superior Court judge rejoins JAMS as a mediator, arbitrator, special master/referee and neutral evaluator

New Panelist Announcement

Walnut Creek – JAMS, the largest private provider of alternative dispute resolution (ADR) services worldwide, is pleased to announce that Hon. Jill Fannin (Ret.) has rejoined its panel. Judge Fannin returns to JAMS after serving over 20 years on the Contra Costa Superior Court, where she conducted hundreds of settlement conferences in a wide variety of matters.

Judge Fannin was appointed to the bench in 2003 and served a two-year term as presiding judge starting in 2017. While on the bench, she served in the Civil Fast-Track Department for seven years, where she handled cases ranging from thousands of dollars to tens of millions of dollars. She was the supervising civil judge in 2023. She also served in the Family Law Division for four years and was the supervising judge of the division in 2012, 2013 and 2014. Earlier in her career, she had a federal and multistate practice, representing both plaintiffs and defendants in civil cases, with an emphasis on class actions, complex insurance coverage and bad faith litigation.

Based in the Walnut Creek Resolution Center, Judge Fannin will serve as a mediator, arbitrator, special master/referee and neutral evaluator, handling business/commercial, breach of contract, personal injury/torts, employment, professional liability, real estate/real property, family law and construction/construction defect cases. She is available to conduct sessions in person, as well as virtually, for clients across the country.

We are thrilled to welcome Judge Fannin back to JAMS following her two decades of service on the Contra Costa Superior Court. She knows how to work with parties to navigate complex disputes and brings incredible preparation and optimism to each case that she handles.

- Chris Poole, JAMS CEO

Immediately prior to the bench, Judge Fannin worked as a full-time mediator and arbitrator with JAMS. During this time, she handled a wide variety of matters, including cases alleging wrongful termination, sexual harassment, defamation, misappropriation of trade secrets and insurance bad faith, as well as earth movement disputes among numerous landowners, professional liability cases, landlord/tenant disputes and personal injury claims.

My time on the bench offered an invaluable experience to oversee cases across many areas of the law and deepen my understanding of where conflict emerges and how to work with individuals from all backgrounds to find a path forward. I look forward to returning to JAMS and continuing my career in ADR.

- Hon. Jill Fannin (Ret.)

Judge Fannin earned her B.S. from the University of California, Berkeley, and her J.D. from the University of California, Hastings College of the Law.
