Awards Panelist News

Santa Clara, Calif. – JAMS, the largest private provider of alternative dispute resolution (ADR) services worldwide, is pleased to announce that Hon. Patricia M. Lucas (Ret.) has been honored with a Lifetime Achievement Award by the Santa Clara County Trial Lawyers Association. This award recognizes judges for their extended commitment to fairness and their dedication to public service. Judge Lucas received this honor at the organization’s 45th Annual Judges’ Night on May 9.

The Santa Clara County Trial Lawyers Association is a nonprofit organization committed to providing members with continuing legal education, networking and involvement with the local bench; providing the community with fair access to the justice system; and promoting a positive image of trial lawyers.

“This is well deserved for Judge Lucas, who has dedicated much of her career to leadership and education in the judiciary and has built a stellar reputation in the Santa Clara legal community. JAMS is proud to have her on our panel and congratulates her on this outstanding recognition.”

- Chris Poole, JAMS CEO

Judge Lucas brings a broad range of experience, including leadership roles on the California bench and in her private civil litigation practice. She was a judicial leader in both education and statewide administration, serving as dean of the California Judicial College, presiding judge of Santa Clara County Superior Court and chair of the statewide committee of presiding judges advising the chief justice and the Judicial Council. On the bench, she presided over hundreds of complex civil cases, including multiparty, coordinated and consolidated actions; class actions; and Private Attorneys General Act claims. She has also handled civil pretrial motion calendars and numerous civil jury and bench trials.

In addition to acting as a mediator and arbitrator, Judge Lucas serves as a special master, discovery referee and neutral evaluator at JAMS. She has a reputation for her thorough preparation and careful listening. Mindful that settlement discussions may be the “day in court” for many matters, she strives to understand each party’s needs and interests and to explore creative resolutions.
